However, every now and then, life has a delightful way of surprising us—much like finding forgotten treasures in the pockets of childhood clothes. The happiness derived from rediscovering old memories is a timeless joy that resonates deeply in our hearts.
In the midst of our busy lives, where deadlines and commitments dominate our thoughts, stumbling upon fragments of the past can be a heartwarming experience. It's like unearthing a box of forgotten treasures, each item holding the power to transport us back to a simpler, more carefree time. These nostalgic encounters act as a gentle reminder that, despite the chaos of the present, there exists a serene and joyful realm within the recesses of our memories.
Much like finding pennies in the pockets of childhood clothes, the discovery of old memories brings with it a sense of unexpected delight. These moments, often hidden in the corners of our minds, have the power to evoke smiles and laughter, acting as a soothing balm for the soul. They are the pennies of our past, small and seemingly insignificant, yet possessing an immeasurable value in the currency of happiness.
The beauty of these rediscovered memories lies in their ability to bridge the gap between generations. Whether it's stumbling upon a faded photograph, a handwritten note, or a childhood toy tucked away in the attic, these artifacts carry the essence of a bygone era. They provide a tangible link to our roots, connecting us with the people and places that have shaped our journey.
In a world dominated by the rapid advancement of technology and the constant pursuit of the next big thing, the simple act of finding old memories serves as a poignant reminder to slow down and appreciate the beauty of the present moment. It encourages us to pause, reflect, and savor the richness of our personal history—a history that is often overshadowed by the relentless march of time.
As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, the happiness derived from unearthing old memories becomes a source of resilience. It serves as a beacon of light, reminding us that, amidst the chaos, there is a treasure trove of joy waiting to be rediscovered. So, the next time you find yourself caught in the whirlwind of daily life, take a moment to explore the pockets of your memories—you might just find a few pennies from the past that brighten your day and add a touch of magic to your journey.
I used to write blogs 10 years back, and as I got busy with life, I forgot about it. And as luck would have it I just came about this blog of mine.. and I am loving it.. this blog took me back to my days of innocence.. rajat kumarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06393056415523420034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716047738048299147.post-86482933448403972682014-11-05T06:46:00.001-08:002014-11-05T06:46:05.656-08:00Book Review – Private India - Ashwin Sanghi I got this book through Blogadda which was delivered pretty fast, though I am writing this review a bit late but its worth the read, no not just the review but also the book. ;)
Ashwin Sanghi has teamed up with James Patterson to indigenize this series. Private India is a classic thriller. cut to the chase With the usual Mumbai bhais (Don) a Pakistan’s ISI makes an appearance. It is a mix of mysteries. Good enough to make the plot worth it.
Private India is India’s best detective agency, run by Mr. Jack Morgan. Santosh Wagh heads Private India.
When visiting Thai surgeon Kanya Jaiyen is killed in mysterious circumstances at the Marine Bay Plaza. The police let Private India get on with it. thoough unable to stop serial murders to happen the Private India pulls it off solving all the mysteries like straight from the books.
The first murder is followed by many more. Reporter Bhavna Choksi becomes the second victim. Then Elima Xavier, Anjana Lal, Ragini Sharma, and others follow. Each murder victim is found strangled with a yellow scarf and surrounded by antique artifacts, guess found on Pawnstars @ history.
Private India makes the plot long enough to cover the topic and to the point enough to keep the interest going. It is a 450+ pages book which is read with much ease given the smooth and grasping plot.
The Indian mujahideen angle gives you the relation to reality and things dont seem odd afterall, unlike other thrillers where it is the pyschopath neighbor or ex girlfriend. that was good enough to keep this detective story easy to digest.
Though i read a lot of mystery novels but this being plot in India gives you the feel of Desi, the feel of finally a good desi mystery novel. I wont be surprised if it transforms into a good movie soon.
All in all this books keeps you hooked in and you dont regret going through those 450 pages. rajat kumarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06393056415523420034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716047738048299147.post-18820846126187280942014-08-24T02:41:00.002-07:002014-08-24T02:41:15.835-07:00

I read somewhere, “India is not a developing nation, but a highly developed one which is in its initial stage of decline” and when I read it again and strained my prudence I realized how apt this was. We Indians take utmost pride while saying that we are the sons and daughters of Mother India. A nation where the number of female gods worshipped is far greater than their male counterparts. We boast about unity in diversity, different cultures, varied rituals and different languages. But whom are we fooling? No doubt that once India was the Golden Bird, but today it’s a caged ailing fowl; caged in its own false prejudices, ridiculous hypocrisy, and baseless division in the name of caste, creed and sex.
Its high time to do some serious introspection. Until and unless We change, nothing is gonna change. If we start tolerating crime against women just because it happened to someone not related to me... It wont be late that it actually happens to someone you know...
Lets pledge to intervene and stop every injustice and degradation being done to women around us. and not be a mere spectator. We have to educate our younger generation to respect the fairer sex like they same way THEY want to be respected by them. And therefore I believe our education system has to be revamped to inculcate and environment which fosters equality, honor and respect. rajat kumarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06393056415523420034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716047738048299147.post-28264097234784107092013-05-17T09:08:00.002-07:002013-05-17T09:08:43.991-07:00WeChat with Anyone, Anywhere

Voice messages have always intrigued me since the answering machine days. When I started using mobile phone, I always felt the need of a similar application for my mobile. Today I have BBM and Whatsapp but still I feel the void of voice messages.
Thanks to We Chat, Voice Messages are a reality now. If given a chance to add 5 or more people on we chat I would like to add the following people in my group.
1) My Mom. Usually I am busy attending meetings and I am unable to take her calls, messaging is a big headache for her… so I will give her We chat so that I can receive her voice messages after work hours.
2) My GF. Sending late night voice messages. Nothing beats that.
3) My friend is a very good singer and she loves dedicating songs to me. She will send me songs on We chat and I could listen to her songs later.
4) We all love cursing friends, Voice messages will be the perfect way to tell them how much I love those buggers.
5) Then I will add Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. He is one of the best orator and I would love to chat with him on We chat. \m/

Chennai. My Bitch. I curse it, I hate it, I blame it, but I can’t leave it. Coming here was my choice, living here was my decision, working here at the company's head office, was my dream. Yet, every day I spend in this city of paradoxes, I resent it almost in every breath I take. I remember the day when the campus interviewer asked this serious question, “Why do you wish to work in Chennai?” “Sir, it’s been 24 years I have spent in Dehradun, I want to live alone, on my own.” I said brimming with confidence and a charming smile. “He wants to run away from his parents…Hahaha!” said the interviewer, laughing out so loudly that it did scare me for a second. But he was right; I wish I never said that, I wish I had asked for some other place anywhere across the length and breadth of the nation. I wish...
Since I have lived in this land of utterly baseless conservationism, I have tried my best to accept it, as it is. And I guess it were these efforts which I was putting in to be a part of this cultural, traditional and superior race, that hurt me the most. Maybe I was trying too hard to fit in a place where I didn’t belong. Maybe I should have realized this in the initial days of training that “Beta, mujhse na ho payega…”
I have made fun of everything in Chennai, the dressing sense, the sense of humor, the banal monotonous food, the paramount simplicity, the outmoded, dull grey buildings, the ugly localities, the tongue twister language, the depressing lifestyle, the larger than life superstars, the stupid preference of outings or fun and the naïveté women. I have ridiculed everything that I came across. I have fought with nearly everyone, the Autowalas, Policewalas, taxiwalas, hotelwalas, Conductors, bike parking managers, colleagues, boss and super boss. I have abused them all. I have been to the beaches in the mornings and abused the fishermen for answering the natures call on the shore, spoiling the heavenly morning beauty, I have cursed the temple pundits for looting money for no reasons, and I have called names to the actors whom our late Mukesh Harane could put to shame. Yes I have done it all. I have done it for six months, One year, Two year, Three years and now it is my fourth, and I still do it. I did it then and I do it now. But the difference is, initially I used to do it all the times, at office, at home, in bus, in train, in boat, in plane, in Delhi, in Dehradun. I cursed Chennai for not being my dream city, a city to spend the crazy youth, a place to experiment with everything possible.
But today I do it very rarely, i.e. as long as I am not with my friends. There is a huge difference between then and now. But you might say I still curse it, what’s the deal?
The deal is, when I am late at night in Delhi, I take an auto and the autowala speaks words as sweet as honey and promises to take the minimum charge for getting me the last bus to Dehradun, but actually dumps me 5 minutes further with a bus ticket which is 5 times the actual cost and demands commission from me as well as the bus owner, apart from the regular fare, then I don’t curse Chennai. When the last bus to Dehradun turns out to be a private bus which has charged me the most expensive ticket amongst the passengers and the quality is nowhere close to the one I travel in during my Chennai- Bangalore trips, then I miss Chennai. When the bus stops at the restaurant midway and the only thing that can be consumed while travelling is masala daal, paneer masala, bhindi masala, an oily bread pakoda, which will definitely kill me of acidity during the other half of the journey, then I think of Idly dosa sambhar cocnut chutneys. After changing the bus at Roorkee early in the morning when I finally reached Dehradun…

Holi had just marked the beginning of spring, after a long chilly winter season, the birds were singing in the verandah again, the sun was bright and warm; the clear blue sky with patches of white cotton like clouds made every heart sing and every face smile. Though things were not as good for the poor chap, he had to take his old man to the Pathology lab were the ultrasound had to be conducted, to check what was troubling the old fellow. On the doctors recommendations he took the patient to one of the most renowned pathology center. The long queue in the lobby at this early hour confirmed the popularity of the physician. Both father and son sat in the corner, both disturbed with the ongoing health issues of the silver locked fellow. They didn’t speak much; they hardly did before and were comfortable sitting quietly. There were three families in the waiting room. A Tibetan family, with an old man and his middle aged daughter, a woman with her teen son and a young couple. The receptionist was calling out names and the patients moved inside the lab where the ultrasounds were being done. Everyone seemed dull and worried, and why they shouldn't be, being at a doctor is not a reason to be happy about. The Tibetans were gloomy and were the first one to be called in. The old man had trouble walking and his daughter helped him in and onto the inspection bed. The middle aged woman went in next and came out more vexed.
Though everyone seemed distressed at the lab, the young couple was an exception. They were Garhwali couple, chirpy, happy and beautiful. The man was average on his looks while the lady was incredibly beautiful. Like all newlyweds she wore bright red bangles, bright red sindoor, bright red lip color, bright red silk suit, and being fair herself she had pink face. She was the life at the doctor’s lobby. The lad couldn’t take his eyes off her, so did everyone else present there.
They were called in next. Holding her husband’s hand she went inside. Now the lobby was dull and painful, it was exactly how a doctor’s waiting room should be like. The boy looked at the old man, his heart sank, how weak and feeble he had become. But they didn’t exchange a word. They sat next to each other. After 10 minutes the husband came out with the doctor. “There’s no heart beat.” The doctor said. The husband looked down, went inside and came out with his wife. Her big eyes filled with tears as big as pearls, her face turned red, unable to control her tears, she looked at her feet and hid her face in the dupatta. It was painful even to look at her. The husband sat next to her and while waiting for the reports. The receptionist handed over the report and the doctor said, “It will happen again, she has a condition…” as the doctor said this, she ran outside the premises and only thing we could hear was heart breaking loud cries.

Today DMK pulled out from the Government, Sonia Gandhi is furious on her natives playing kiddish games with India on not returning the Marines, India has just won the 3rd test match at Mohali, with a dream 3-0 Win against Australia, Akshay Kumar (Guruji) is the highest Tax payer in 2012-2013 in Bollywood, Deepika and Ranbir are getting back again in GF BF wala game, My boss is on Leave...
All this is not important...
19 March 2013 is important because today I realized, (ok someone made me realize), that I should do serious blogging. and Today on this very day when I am sitting in my office chair, with the year end pressure piling up along with my credit card bills, when I am frustrated to the limits after spending awesome night in Bangalore, where I had the most delicious chicken hyderabadi at MG road. here I am again in Chennai, the city which I dislike to my core.
Today I promise myself that YES, I will take my constitutional right Of article 19A to the next level and start blogging with the same seriousness like that of Manmohan sigh's when he said "hazaron jawabo se acchi hai meri Khamoshi.."

To me it was exciting that it was rare that we were using this technology for commercial vehicle when it is not used in passenger luxury cars in India. Usually it happens that a technology when tried and tested in passenger vehicle segment enters the commercial vehicle.
so what is fully automatic transmission. when there is not clutch and gear arrangement, it is called fully automatic vehicle. everyone must have experienced how tiring it is driving a car through a market/ heavy traffic jam in peak hours, we change gears like mad. clutch gear clutch brake clutch gear...... hhhh... ultimately driving becomes a torture. Fully automatic transmission (F.A.T.) is a boon for the above situations. In FAT vehicle you dont find a clutch or gear stick, it contains only accelerator and brake. the gear box is intellegent enough to change gears as per the gear requirement based on the inputs from engine and speed curve. There is a hydraulic coupling instead of a clutch which makes the gear shift smooth and noiseless. The electronic chips see that everything is as per the requirement.
so for a layman FAT is just like driving GEARED HONDA ACTIVA instead of HERO HONDA KARIZMA ZMR. see the difference.

So why such expensive technology in commercial vehicle? thats what i asked my boss.
Commercial vehicles are used to make money, the owner doesnt look for fuel economy but fuel efficiency. similarly the owner finds that putting a FAT reduces the driver fatigue, increases the life of the transmission system, reduces cycle time and thus makes money..
Its a fect that on an avg every day there are 80,000 gearchange in a commercial vehicle, just imagine 80000 times the whole gearbox is stressed, strained and fatigued. fully automatic transmission eliminates this problem since the hydraulic clutch and automatic gear change make it possible to minimise the damage to the entire energy supply line from engine to tires.

in short FAT is THE THING for applications where there is very high gear change density, for our commercial vehicles in areas like mining, city bus application and tippers.rajat kumarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06393056415523420034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716047738048299147.post-1859764726428212042010-09-01T12:05:00.000-07:002010-09-01T12:30:11.134-07:00self motivation"..the Lamp begins to die which has no oil in it.. no matter how much you try to keep it burning.."
how true. life is just like this lamp and Self motivation is the fuel that keeps it going, more the enthusiasm self motivation the brighter you shine giving light not only to urself but to everyone around you...
Self motivation can be defined as a collection of various ingredients and being positive is the most vital. Every year there are number of cases where the seniors are either expelled or suspended from the college as punishment for ragging the new students. I don’t know what these kids are up to but seriously I treasure the “ragging period” when I was in first year of my graduation. I was an average kid not too impressive, one of those who are fun to rag, and so it happened I was one of the sought after fresher, seniors loved to “rag” me.
When I took the admission in D.I.T., I was very scared of what ragging is all about, all the stories which I heard from my friends and newspaper incidents made me wet my pants every time I imagined myself running nude in the campus, being beaten up by some drunk seniors, doing stuff conceived by devils. I think it was one of the reasons that I didn’t choose any far away college where I would have to live as a hosteller (ragging in hostels is far worse then for any day-scholar).
It was here, my mom who knew what all I was going through, (I didn’t show the fear, but parents as u know we can’t hide anything from them) told me that ragging is not at all that bad as it seems, in fact it’s the only time to know your seniors, make friends, and be open and bold. The more you run from it the bitter it gets. So just enjoy these days and gain confidence from it. But keep in mind they are your seniors and you have to spend rest of these years with them, don’t misbehave or insult them, its you who is joining them so always remember treat people the way u want others to treat you. These were the golden words and they helped me come over my fear and anxiety.
Soon I began going to the college. The college administration was taking all measures to keep the rowdy elements away from the first year students but it didn’t carry on long. Soon the blood thirsty seniors found their victims and started the junior hunting safari. I avoided places like canteen, dhabas, sunset point where the probability of being ragged was high. Moreover being six Feet, 90 KGs and having thick beard I was difficult to distinguish. I looked like one of them. It was after 17 days that I was ragged. I had shaved as I started looking professor rather then fresher and also the teachers asked me to do so. I got in the college bus and took a window seat. Soon the bus was overloaded with students, both seniors and juniors, and the series of INTRO started followed by Hindi movie songs and “DIT KI JAI” slogans. Every senior got hold of two or three BAKRAS and made them do funny acts which ranged from begging in the bus to acting like the bus conductor. All this time I looked out of the window pretending I was least interested in what they were doing. I felt as if someone was staring me, I dared looking at him. Suddenly some one started singing “kajrare kajrare…” in one of the most pathetic voice which made everyone burst with laughter; I stole this time to look at the person who was staring me. He was in casuals carrying travel bag, one of the senior who caught the bus from railway station, a final year student my super duper senior. He seemed one of the most wanted types. I quickly turned back towards the window not to look back at him. But it was too late… he caught me.
“which year?”
It was no use lying now, if I said 2nd year and he found out that I was a fresher it would have been disastrous.
“First year SIR.”
“Branch ?”
“Mechanical SIR.”
“SAALE itni der se senior khada hai aur tu mast baitha hai, bahot bada aadmi hai tu….”
“sorry SIR, I didn’t know you are a senior” I said as I was getting up to give him the seat.
“don’t try to be oversmart, ok take this bag put it on the seat and remain standing. Give INTRO.”
I gave INTRO for the first time and after every mistake I was asked to start all over again. After many tries when I got it correct, I was asked to repeat it in Hindi. I don’t know what fun it was but it sucked. After I finished with the INTRO, I was asked to sing a patriotic song. As it was 17th AUG 2005, there were patriotic songs everywhere. I sang “VANDE MATRAM”. I was soon asked to stop as it became unbearable for the seniors.
By this time we had reached college,(thank god).
“Aage se seniors ko ekdum seat de dio warna roz gana gana padega. Waise tu mera branch junior hai isliye zyada kuch nahi kia. But mind you don’t try being oversmart.”
This was how it all started and I met mohit sir one of my fav. Seniors. After that incident I came into the limelight. It became a routine to sing in the bus, shouting out loud “seniors are always right and juniors are always wrong”, running after friends with sheet holder and drafters yelling “dhishkiaauuu dhiskiaauuu”, abusing vehicles and trees, dancing on the tables and proposing senior ma’am. It was fun and quality time with seniors who never tried to be rude since we were always polite. The time flew fast and it was our fresher party. Again this was the best college event I ever had. Total masti and enjoyment. After the freshers everything seemed monotonous same classes, boring college bus, no breaking rules, and all places accessible. Sure I was missing my “ragging days”.
It was during those days that I made good friends seniors as well as peers, I enjoyed every moment of college life and realized that I am no more in the school. It helped me become mature and compatible with other people.
I feel ragging is an integral part of college life and it should me taken lightly and maturely. Of course the seniors should stay in limits and the juniors should remain obedient.rajat swine flu control...pune the education hub of india, which is nowdays in news for the maximum number of swine flu cases, is indeed a dream place to be for every student. no doubt there are students from all over the country studying there and many come from abroad. as the number of swine flu patients increased the INDIAN government took precautions to stop the flu to spread.. as a result the schools, colleges , universities, movie halls , malls were closed for some time. a good step as this deadly disease spreads from person to person. the common public which was now asked to stay at home were restless youth who were asked to stay at home for a week or so. but most of these students were from different states and saw a nice vacation home. so why close themselves in hostels and PGs they packed their bag and baggage and off they went to every part of the nation.
The sad part is some of them carried with them the deadly H1N1 virus.
the number of cases being registered of swine flu is now increasing in every town of INDIA. as this virus spreads exponentially its hard to control it now.
from PUNE now its everywhere. even in my small town DEHRADUN.
was the decision gud or bad but certainly it added a lot more name to the H1N1 positive list.rajat purpose vehicles which are used widely in agricultural and infrastructural fields. These machines have high torque and power which makes it the best option for carrying loads, working in the fields etc.
most often we see tractors attached with a trolley which contains the goods to be transported. recently i noticed that when this tractor trolley assembly is moving on the road at high speed and in case brakes are applied, it takes considerable amount of time to bring it to rest, but also when the brakes are applied suddenly (in case of emergency) then the tractor stops but the trolley sways around the hinge hitting the vehicles on either sides of the road.
As shown in the above figure, fig A shows the tractor trolley moving in a straight line.
In fig B the brakes are applied to the tractor which slows down, but the trolley keeps moving under the effect of inertia due to which it sways left or right, making it prone to deadly accidents.

what i believe is that the trolley should also have its own pair of brakes which should work in synchronization with the main brakes of the tractor. when such an arrangement will be provided then the ability of the tractor to come to a halt at the right time will be improved multi folds reducing the chance of any mishap.rajat kumarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06393056415523420034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716047738048299147.post-28058832093519034912009-06-23T23:34:00.000-07:002009-06-23T23:52:01.452-07:00changing timeswhen i look at the present climatic situation which has drastically changed in the past few decades, i feel scared and timid. the exponential decrease in the number of trees is one of the several reasons for this climatic degradation.
can this problem be fixed? is there any way to improve the quality of flora and fauna?

through years the degree of deforestation has certainly gone down, but we failed to understand that deforestation alone cannot halt the green house effect, more trees have to be planted to compensate the loss of the trees cut down since ages. thus i feel now is the time that we put on our gloves to revolutionise afforestation.

in my opinion the best way to spread the message of afforestation is through schools. As when the children are made aware of the importance of planting more trees they spread this word to their parents and relatives which makes the society aware of the need to plant more trees. the schools have the power of motivation and enlightening the students which will certainly make them conscious about trees and their importance.

here are some steps which can me implied in schools and homes.

the schools must encourage the students to plant at least a tree on their birthdays, rather then spending money on their birthday parties.

the school picnic should be organized in such places where it is feasible to plant trees and every student should be made to plant a tree on the trip.such school trip will be beneficial in planting more trees where students will have a first hand experience with planting trees.

the families should inculcate a habit of planting trees on all the family occasions and family functions.

every house must have at least a tree in their lawns and gardens

all the housing societies and colonies should have green clubs which take up the task of plating trees in their localities.

i am sure these steps will create the public awareness among the students and parents.

the time is now to bring about a change to preserve the gifts of nature.
rajat kumarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06393056415523420034noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716047738048299147.post-57958390441223726932008-07-30T11:37:00.000-07:002008-07-30T11:42:49.668-07:00famous quotes by lord Buddha
A dog is not considered a good dog because he is a good barker. However, by drawing curves from the natural pivot points in your wrist and elbow you can control your work with a far greater degree of accuracy. To do this you must make sure you have a large enough work space, as you will need to rotate your drawing round as you work on it. Depending on the curve you wish to draw you need to line it up with the arc generated by the pivot point in your wrist or elbow. You will also need to ensure that the height of your desk allows you to rest your elbow naturally on the desk whilst drawing. You must feel completely comfortable!

In the picture to the left you can see how by resting my drawing hand on my wrist, and pivoting my hand (and of course the pen) around this point, I will generate a clean curve matching the roof line of the car I am drawing. Of course you can adjust the arc by adjusting the position you hold the pen, either before or during the stroke. All this may sound a little contrived, but it is actually very natural after you have tried it with a few sketches. It may be an idea to try drawing a whole bunch of different curves on a blank sheet to get the hang of this. With each line you should be aiming to go over the same line and again and again. This should improve your accuracy.

Using the pivot point offered by my elbow you can see that much larger curves can be created. Apart from this the technique is pretty much the same as the wrist born curve. Here however you have the option of throwing a little wrist movement in at the same time. Varying your curve even more. I think its important to repeat that you don't over think this technique. Once you try it even just a few times it will start to feel very natural. And remember that the curves you are creating are still just sketch curves. You only aiming to increase the speed and tension in your linework...not take away the looseness and spontaneity of the sketch.
Have fun!
rajat kumarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06393056415523420034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716047738048299147.post-80820489560679441192008-06-10T00:05:00.000-07:002008-06-10T00:07:09.440-07:00how to face an interviewBasic ThingsIn addition to doing research and practicing your answers to common interview questions, you should be aware of general interview etiquette. Remember the following points when preparing for an interview:
Review your resume, and make sure that you can explain everything on it. Arrive at the interview ten minutes early to give yourself an opportunity to collect your thoughts and relax. Be aware that many employers will have their receptionists record the time you came in. If you rush in at the last minute, an employer may have serious concerns about your ability to arrive on time for a normal day at work.
Get a good night's sleep before your interview. You will think more effectively in the interview if you are rested. Also, yawning will not impress anyone. Eat something before the interview. If you are worried about your stomach growling, you will not be able to concentrate on the questions.
Dress appropriately for the position that you are applying to. Try to dress like the people who work there would dress if they were representing their organization at some function. If you are unsure about what to wear, always err on the side of being too dressed up.
Make sure that you are clean, neat, and well-groomed. Interviewers do notice your appearance, and first impressions are critical in an interview situation.
Take a copy of your resume, transcript, references and perhaps a portfolio or work samples with you. Also take a pen and paper, as you may wan to record some important information.

The InterviewInterview is an opportunity for both the employer and the applicant to gather information. The employer wants to know if you, the applicant, have the skills, knowledge, self-confidence, and motivation necessary for the job. At this point you can be confident that the employer saw something of interest in your resume. He or she also wants to determine whether or not you will fit in with the organization's current employees and philosophy. Similarly, you will want to evaluate the position and the organization, and determine if they will fit into your career plans. The interview is a two-way exchange of information. It is an opportunity for both parties to market themselves. The employer is selling the organization to you, and you are marketing your skills, knowledge, and personality to the employer.
Interview Preparation
Research is a critical part of preparing for an interview. If you haven't done your homework, it is going to be obvious. Spend time researching and thinking about yourself, the occupation, the organization, and questions you might ask at the end of the interview.
Step 1: Know Yourself
The first step in preparing for an interview is to do a thorough self-assessment so that you will know what you have to offer an employer. It is very important to develop a complete inventory of skills, experience, and personal attributes that you can use to market yourself to employers at any time during the interview process. In developing this inventory, it is easiest to start with experience. Once you have a detailed list of activities that you have done (past jobs, extra-curricular involvements, volunteer work, school projects, etc.), it is fairly easy to identify your skills.
Simply go through the list, and for each item ask yourself "What could I have learned by doing this?" "What skills did I develop?" "What issues/circumstances have I learned to deal with?" Keep in mind that skills fall into two categories - technical and generic. Technical skills are the skills required to do a specific job. For a laboratory assistant, technical skills might include knowledge of sterilization procedures, slide preparation, and scientific report writing. For an outreach worker, technical skills might include counseling skills, case management skills, or program design and evaluation skills. Generic skills are those which are transferable to many work settings. Following is a list of the ten most marketable skills. You will notice that they are all generic.
Analytical/Problem Solving
Flexibility/Versatility
Interpersonal
Oral/Written Communication
Organization/Planning
Time Management
Motivation
Leadership
Self-Starter/Initiative
Team Player
Often when people think of skills, they tend to think of those they have developed in the workplace. However, skills are developed in a variety of settings. If you have ever researched and written a paper for a course, you probably have written communication skills. Team sports or group projects are a good way to develop the skills required of a team player and leader. Don't overlook any abilities you may have When doing the research on yourself, identifying your experience and skills is important, but it is not all that you need to know. Consider the answers to other questions such as:
How have I demonstrated the skills required in this position?
What are my strong points and weak points?
What are my short term and long term goals?
What can I offer this particular employer?
What kind of environment do I like? (i.e. How do I like to be supervised? Do I like a fast pace?)
What do I like doing?
Apart from my skills and experience, what can I bring to this job?
Step 2: Know the Occupation
The second step in preparing for an interview is to research the occupation. This is necessary because in order to present a convincing argument that you have the experience and skills required for that occupation, you must first know what those requirements and duties are. With this information uncovered, you can then match the skills you have (using the complete skills/experience inventory you have just prepared) with the skills you know people in that occupational field need. The resulting "shortlist" will be the one that you need to emphasize during the interview. It is also in your best interest to identify the approximate starting salary for that position, or those similar. There are several ways to find out about an occupation:
Acquire a copy of the job description from the employer (Human
Resources/Personnel) or check with Student Employment Services. If you are responding to an advertisement, this may also supply some details.
The Career Resource Centre has general information files on a variety of occupations. Make sure you have read through the appropriate file and are updated on the occupation. If you belong to a professional association related to the occupation, use its resources. These associations often publish informative newsletters and sponsor seminars. It is also a good way to meet people working in the field. Conduct information interviews with people working in the field. Read articles about people in the occupation, and articles written by people in the occupation. Sources include newspapers, magazines and the internet. Find out what the future trends are in the area. Is technology changing the job?
Step 3: Know the Organization
The more you know about an organization, the better prepared you will be to discuss how you can meet its needs. Some of the characteristics that you should know about an organization are:
Where is it located?
How big is it?
What are its products and who does it serve?
How is the organization structured?
What is its history?
Have there been any recent changes, new developments?
There are a number of ways in which you can access this information. Most medium- to large-sized organizations publish information about themselves. You can access this a number of ways:
On campus at the Student Employment Services (company literature and business directories) or at the Drake Centre Library
The Winnipeg Centennial Library has a business microfiche with information on over 5000 Canadian companies and business directories
Many companies have internet home pages which you can locate by searching by industry and company name
Finally, you can visit or phone the organization and request some information on their products, services or areas of research
If the organization is fairly small, or fairly new, there may not be much information published. In this case, it will be necessary to do an information interview. Contact someone within the organization, introduce yourself, explain that you are considering moving into the field, and ask if it would be possible to meet with him/her to inquire about the company/organization and about what exactly the position would involve.
Step 4: Prepare Questions Having completed your background research, you are now ready to prepare questions to ask the interviewer(s). Try to think of questions for which the answer was not readily available in company literature. Intelligent well thought-out questions will demonstrate your genuine interest in the position. Be careful how many questions you ask, however, as too many can imply you feel the interview was not successfully run. Pick your questions with care - this is your chance to gather information, so ask about what you really want to know. Avoid sounding critical by mentioning negative information you may have discovered. This is one of the most effective ways to compare different employers, so for issues of particular importance to you (for example, whether they support staff upgrading), you should ask the same questions of each employer. Some sample questions are:
What are the most significant factors affecting your business today? How have changes in technology most affected your business today?
How has your business/industry been affected by the recession?
How has your company grown or changed in the last couple of years?
What future direction do you see the company taking?
Where is the greatest demand for your services or product?
Where is most of the pressure from increased business felt in this company?
Which department feels it the most?
How do you differ from your competitors?
How much responsibility will I be given in this position?
What do you like about working with this organization?
Can you tell me more about the training program?
Have any new product lines been introduced recently?
How much travel is normally expected?
What criteria will be used to evaluate my performance?
Will I work independently or as part of a team?
How did you advance to your position?
What are the career paths available in this organization?
When can I expect to hear from you regarding this position?
It is very important to ask the last question because employers want to hire individuals who are interested in the position - and asking this question definitely helps to demonstrate interest on your part. Exercise judgment when asking questions to an employer. When being interviewed by a large company that has a high profile, one would not ask the question "What is the history of your company and how was your company started?" You can find the answer to this question in the company's annual report or articles in magazines/newspapers. However, small- and medium-sized companies do not always produce publicly available annual reports and it may be difficult to access information on the company and its role in the industry. This question is appropriate if you have exercised all other ways to find out the answer.

Great interviews arise from careful groundwork. You can ace your next interview if you:
Enter into a state of relaxed concentration. This is the state from which great basketball players or Olympic skaters operate. You'll need to quiet the negative self chatter in your head through meditation or visualization prior to sitting down in the meeting. You'll focus on the present moment and will be less apt to experience lapses in concentration, nervousness, self-doubt and self-condemnation.

Act spontaneous, but be well prepared.Be your authentic self, professional yet real. Engage in true conversation with your interviewer, resting on the preparation you did prior to coming to the meeting. Conduct several trial runs with another person simulating the interview before it actually occurs. It's the same as anticipating the questions you'll be asked on a final exam.

Set goals for the interview. It is your job to leave the meeting feeling secure that the interviewer knows as much as he or she possibly can about your skills, abilities, experience and achievements. If you sense there are misconceptions, clear them up before leaving. If the interviewer doesn't get around to asking you important questions, pose them yourself (diplomatically) and answer them. Don't leave the meeting without getting your own questions answered so that you have a clear idea of what you would be getting yourself into. If possible, try to get further interviews, especially with other key players.

Know the question behind the question. Ultimately, every question boils down to, "Why should we hire you?" Be sure you answer that completely. If there is a question about your meeting deadlines, consider whether the interviewer is probing delicately about your personal life, careful not to ask you whether your family responsibilities will interfere with your work. Find away to address fears if you sense they are present.

Follow up with an effective "thank you" letter. Don't write this letter lightly. It is another opportunity to market yourself. Find some areas discussed in the meeting and expand upon them in your letter. Writing a letter after a meeting is a very minimum. Standing out among the other candidates will occur if you thoughtfully consider this follow up letter as an additional interview in which you get to do all the talking. Propose useful ideas that demonstrate your added value to the team.

Consider the interviewer's agenda. Much is on the shoulders of the interviewer. He or she has the responsibility of hiring the right candidate. Your ability to do the job will need to be justified. "Are there additional pluses here?" "Will this person fit the culture of this organization?" These as well as other questions will be heavily on the interviewer's mind. Find ways to demonstrate your qualities above and beyond just doing the job.

Expect to answer the question, "Tell me about yourself." This is a pet question of prepared and even unprepared interviewers. Everything you include should answer the question, "Why should we hire you?" Carefully prepare your answer to include examples of achievements from your work life that closely match the elements of the job before you. Obviously, you'll want to know as much about the job description as you can before you respond to the question.

Watch those nonverbal clues. Experts estimate that words express only 30% to 35% of what people actually communicate; facial expressions and body movements and actions convey the rest. Make and keep eye contact. Walk and sit with a confident air. Lean toward an interviewer to show interest and enthusiasm. Speak with a well-modulated voice that supports appropriate excitement for the opportunity before you.

Be smart about money questions. Don't fall into the trap of telling the interviewer your financial expectations. You may be asking for too little or too much money and in each case ruin your chances of being offered the job. Instead, ask what salary range the job falls in. Attempt to postpone a money discussion until you have a better understanding of the scope of responsibilities of the job.

Don't hang out your dirty laundry. Be careful not to bare your soul and tell tales that are inappropriate or beyond the scope of the interview. State your previous experience in the most positive terms. Even if you disagreed with a former employer, express your enthusiasm for earlier situations as much as you can. Whenever you speak negatively about another person or situation in which you were directly involved, you run the risk (early in the relationship) of appearing like a troubled person who may have difficulty working with others.

Think about the following points. Do any of them apply to you? Oversell Trying too hard to impress; bragging; acting aggressively. Undersell Failing to emphasize the fact that you have related skills; discussing experience using negative qualifiers (i.e. "I have a little experience..."). Body Language It is easy to create a negative impression without even realizing that you are doing it. Are you staring at your feet, or talking to the interviewer's shoulder? Be aware of what your actions say about you. Lack of Honesty The slightest stretching of the truth may result in you being screened out. Negative Attitude The interview is not an opportunity for you to complain about your current supervisor or co-workers (or even about 'little' things, such as the weather). Lack of Preparation You have to know about the organization and the occupation. If you don't, it will appear as though you are not interested in the position.Lack of Enthusiasm If you are not excited about the work at the interview, the employer will not assume that your attitude will improve when hired.rajat kumarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06393056415523420034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8716047738048299147.post-24579971097877518272008-06-08T23:52:00.000-07:002011-06-04T14:14:46.622-07:00chennaiMadras, as i love calling it Chennai, is a place where i have witnessed vast difference between the education and the educated. History has always been in favor of Madras, surrounded by the sea, it has invited visitors from around the world, who with them have brought, knowledge, experiences and money. As the Northern region of the nation was under constant invasions and wars, Madras was a experiencing steady growth and stability. This exposure to two different kind of circumstances can be easily noticed in the people from north and south. A typical north Indian will be bold, brave and impulsive whereas a south Indian person is more intellectual, calm and cautious. I find this pretty interesting that change in the character of people because of regional division can be so prominent even after years.
What i want to share at this point of time is that, no matter these people have had the oppurtuniti..rajat kumarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06393056415523420034noreply@blogger.com0
